Veterans, PTSD survivors, brain tumor patients, police, and firefighters face brain-health and gut-health burdens that mainstream nutrition ignores. Sentinel Biosystems and Lucian's Food are building allergen-safe, brain-supportive food for those who serve — and pushing for hemp-seed nutrition (not CBD) on military bases.
A note from the founder
"I'm a PTSD survivor. I live with a brain tumor. I'm raising a son with 30+ severe food allergies and autism. I built Sentinel Biosystems because the people who carry the most — veterans, first responders, kids like mine — are the ones the food system forgets. We can do better. This page exists because we're going to."
— Founder, Sentinel Biosystems · Lucian's Food
Four communities we're building for — and the science behind why food is part of the answer.
Higher rates of TBI, PTSD, IBS, and food sensitivity than the general population. Most MREs and base food contain top-15 allergens.
Gut-brain axis dysregulation is well-documented in PTSD. Allergen-safe, brain-supportive nutrition is part of recovery — not a luxury.
Shift work, chronic stress, and limited safe food options on duty. Allergic officers often have no compliant ration on a 12-hour shift.
Elevated brain tumor and cancer risk from occupational exposure. Anti-inflammatory, allergen-safe nutrition matters more here, not less.
Hulled hemp seeds (hemp hearts) are an FDA-recognized food — they contain essentially no THC and no CBD. Banning them on bases conflates a nutrient-dense food with a regulated cannabinoid. Service members deserve the food, and the facts.
DoD policy (2019) restricted hemp-derived products that could cause a positive THC test. Hulled hemp seeds and hemp-seed oil have negligible THC and don't trigger that risk — but they get lumped in by association. The result: service members lose access to one of the most nutrient-dense, allergen-friendly foods we know of.
We're advocating for clear, science-based nutrition guidance that separates food from cannabinoid products — so bases, brigs, and military hospitals can serve real food.
Firefighters and certain veteran cohorts have elevated brain tumor incidence linked to occupational exposure. Patients in active treatment face severe dietary restrictions — and most "safe" foods on the market still contain top-15 allergens or processed inflammatory inputs.
Our founder lives with this firsthand. Lucian's Food prioritizes brain-supportive, low-inflammatory, allergen-engineered formulations — for patients, for caregivers, for the people who showed up.
PTSD is increasingly understood as a whole-body condition. Chronic gut inflammation, food sensitivities, and microbiome disruption show up at higher rates in PTSD populations — and feed back into mood, cognition, and sleep.
Allergen-safe, anti-inflammatory food isn't a cure. It's a baseline. We want service members and survivors to have that baseline available — at home, on shift, and on base.
Sentinel Biosystems is structured to be procurement-ready. Here's where we're pursuing partnerships.
Allergen-safe pilot programs for VA medical centers, DoD hospitals, and base dining — starting with Top-15-free product lines.
Brain-health and PTSD nutrition research aligned with Defense Health Agency and SBIR funding tracks for service-connected conditions.
Pilots with police departments, fire departments, and EMS for shift-compatible, allergen-safe ration options.
America's Seed Fund (SBIR/STTR) backs early-stage R&D with a clear federal mission fit. Our allergen-engineered, brain-supportive nutrition platform has direct alignment with DoD, DHA, VA, USDA, and HHS solicitations.
Validate Top-15-free, brain-supportive formulations against DoD/VA nutrition standards. Document allergen-control manufacturing process and shelf-stable ration prototypes.
Pilot deployments with VA medical centers, base dining, and first-responder agencies. Measure outcomes in allergic service members, PTSD cohorts, and TBI recovery diets.
Scale via DLA Troop Support, GSA schedules, and VA procurement. Co-develop with DHA, USDA NIFA, and HHS partners on chronic-condition nutrition standards.
Our events calendar now supports Military / Veterans, First Responders, Government Funding, Nonprofit, and SBIR / STTR focus areas — so VSOs, base wellness teams, agency program managers, and 501(c)(3) partners can list awareness, recruiting, and funding events alongside the rest of the community.
